Leading Jockey Tie and Stakes Record at Churchill Downs

Saturday marked the last day of the Churchill Downs fall meet, and with it, the award of several titles, including their “Leading Jockey” title. Calvin Borel and Julien Leparoux tied for the rider’s title with 27 victories each. It is the sixth time that Leparoux has won and the third time for Borel. Borel had a great year as he also won the Kentucky Derby and the Oaks as well as winning four of twelve races at Churchill Downs yesterday.

One of those wins was the 2nd race, the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, an almost $200,000 race for 2-year olds. Riding Super Saver, Borel rode the horse over the 1 1-16 mile fast track to finish in 1:42:83, thus beating the record set in 1999 by Captain Steve.
