Hollywood Park Cancels Thursday Racing

There will be no live racing on Thursday, July 8 at Hollywood Park because there simply are not enough horses to fill the races.

The Southern California track has canceled racing May 26 and June 17. At the time of the announcement regarding the May 26 card, the track had announced it would proceed with canceling other Thursday cards July 1, July 8, and July 15. Apparently the number of horses available improved enough that Hollywood Park went ahead with a July 1 card with eight races.

Out of 44 races run between July 1 and July 5, 15 races (37.5%) have had six horses or less.

Racing will resume the night of July 9. Post time is set for 7:05 p.m. PDT.

Philly park and Belmont cancel live racing

With a predicted temperature of 100 degrees and a slightly higher heat index, Philadelphia Park Casino & Racetrack canceled live racing for July 6 and Belmont Park did the same for live racing on July 7.

In seperate releases, the racetracks said racing was scrapped due to “excessive” heat in their respective areas.

Live racing is expected to resume at Belmont on Thursday, July 8 and at Philly Park on Friday, July 9. Philly Park doesn’t race live Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Full-card simulcasts will continue as usual at both locations
